Artists Develop Art Making Skills: On our sphere, we are challenged to carve in the sphere to make different figures and images. The basic part of this project seems to be the hardest though; making the sphere an actually sphere! When I was creating mine, it was really bumpy and it was not all one surface. Through this process, I have learned little tricks I can now do help me perfect my sphere. This is me developing! :-)
Artists Solve Problems: Tracing the picture onto the slab, it was hard to really see the lines that I traced because I did it over a paper so the lines were not definite. Thinking a little outside the box, I just traced the lines as best I could, only the lines that I could really tell, and free handed the rest of it. It came out pretty identical to the picture so I'm pretty pleased with it so far.
Artists Take Risk: In this project we are doing, we're creating a slab with a picture and creating depth by craving into the slabs in certain sections. The easiest method for this project was probably to do shapes and bold lines so when getting into the crease it would be more precise and define.
Looking at the picture, one can tell that it's going to be slightly more difficult to make the edges precise; harder to get into the corners as well.
Artists Communicate Thru Work: The sides of the Mandala box had to have some 3D designs on them to make them pop just a little more. My ideas for the design was flowers & leafs, which in a way connects with the Mandala design.
Artist Create Original Art: On the lids of our boxes, we had to make a handle to open the box so while everyone was just doing basic handles, like just rectangular, I thought it would be neat to make a feather handle to flow with the rest of my designs on my box.
Artists Develop Art Making Skills: Still creating my Mandala Box, we were instructed to cut into the box to produce a lid for it. Cutting into my box, I learned to have a steady hand and to be more precise because it was my first time doing this, my lines weren't the sharpest and it wasn't even all around the top for the lid.
Artists Communicate Through Their Work: Artist may talk through their art to express their feelings; others may just create. In my box piece, we had to pick a certain design to put on the sides of the box, I chose the Mandala which represents a dreamer's search for completeness and self-unity. Being this young, I haven't found myself but I certainly am still looking.
Artists Reflect: While creating the slabs for the sides of the boxes, I noticed that my mandala was too wide for the side to fit perfectly on it so I had to just center the piece and make the best out of it. When we created the tops and bottoms of the box, it was just the right size to fit the design perfectly on it!
Artist Take Risks: Taking risk is the best choice to make in life but also in the art that I have started, Totem Spoon. The totem spoon was not difficult but it was time consuming; I learned that I have to make different objects connected not just by blending the 2 pieces together but to score and slip. The risk I took was trying to just blend it and not do it the correct way; didn't work out the way I planned so I went back and did it properly.
Artist Collaborate: Collaborating with artist can really help with one's art piece, seeing what they are constructing can give you a more broad perspective on what you can do better on your own art creation. Looking at other classmate's pieces made me be more creative and put more personalized pieces on my creation.
